Year of the Rat

this is something i found on the interweb:

A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal. This is a good year to begin a new job, get married, launch a product or make a fresh start. Ventures begun now may not yield fast returns, but opportunities will come for people who are well prepared and resourceful. The best way for you to succeed is to be patient, let things develop slowly, and make the most of every opening you can find.

let us take heed.
you can find this adorable image on a card at this website:

My lovely horse...

I was a horse-crazy kid, and I never lost that feeling, have always wanted a horse of my own. For my birthday, Gregory took me horse back riding at Turkey Creek Stables. For just $15 an hour, you can ride in a lovely park on a lovely horse. It occured to me, that our heart's desires, which we may believe to be unreachable to us, are closer than we know, in some form they are already here. Until I have the time and resources for a horse of my own, There are 30 horses I can rent at any time.(they even have a couple of mules!)

It's okay to release your inner witch

Yes, ladies, it's good to take out that witch hat once in a while, and wear it proudly. Enough of this good-natured, maternal instinct crap. Hurray for single middle-aged sexy witches!

Hellooooo Kitty

Our sisters by another mister over at Jezebel have important news about the Hello Kitty vibrator:
Those hard plastic ears? If you're not careful, they'll bruise you all up down there. Also, the actual vibration is crappy. I'd have more success with the vibrate feature on my cell phone.
Ouch!

Confessions of a Resting Wrangler

So, instead of writing the stories of my recent road trip and new routes climbed, I decided to check out the profiles of people who listed "Until the End of the World" as a favorite movie. The first 3 I looked into also listed "Wings of Desire." I guess it isn't that freaky since I think they're both Wim Wenders films. I'm not sure if this is such a good use of time. I ended up reading three strangers' blogs.

Aging Hepsters Party All Night Long, Become Actully Aware of Joint Pain

Dateline: Friday Night, 9:00pm to 1:00am, Vermillion.

USD's hometown was once again of scene of aged debauchery as academic hipsters formerly known as Poison Stream visited the Friends of the Eagles Club. Early reviews were tepid, as the band insisted on playing "dance" hits such as "Biko".

As bemused revelers looked about in confusion, one was heard to observe: "I don't know. The drumming is okay, but it doesn't seem right to dance to a song about racial hatred and murder . . ." More downbeat numbers followed, causing much muttering and snide slurs against the band's ability to "rock hard".

But then the aging party-ers got more than they bargained for when up and coming youngsters the Breakout Boys hit the stage. The OTA attendees soon realized that maybe they weren't able to keep up with the kids any more.

Then, to add injury to insult, the Band formerly known as Poison Stream decided to "rock out" for their final set with their covers of "White Wedding" and "Folsom Prison Blues", leaving the more elderly concert goers no choice but to continue rocking, despite being gradually let down by their aged joints. Library worker R. Abeln was heard to exclaim, "Man, my thighs are killing me! I'm going to be feeling this tomorrow!" At least 2 hepsters were reported to have to thrown their necks out during the performance.

There was some small comfort for two of these older party girls as a late night visit to all-night grocery store HY-Vee saw them being addressed as "two hot, sexy dames". This compliment (coming from suave soon-to-be high school English teacher, Justin Walker) almost made up for the fact that they were repeatedly passed up by young men during the night due to the fact that they were surrounded by young women.

Early reports this morning indicate Abeln is indeed 'feeling it" and is taking Ibuprofen for her knee pain.

Tear it up

I went on an unwise ride, and now i am feeling it. 58 miles, 4.5 hours. Sometimes you just have to tear it up. The cool part was i saw 2 coyotes on the path, and i was able to get pretty close to them, maybe 20 yards or so before they ran off. i did not even know we had coyotes in these parts.

In Search of the Missing Blog

This is a little embarassing, but does anybody know how to get to the blog about Dallas in Photographs? It also had a link to a lot of other cities done in photographs. I know I clicked on somebody's profile who had commented somewhere on one of Mully's blogs, but I don't remember who it was.

I Almost Had a Team of Star Wranglers

It's volleyball season once again. I was going to name the team "Star Wranglers" but I made the mistake of opening it up for discussion. After a fair amount of free association we went from "One Hit Wonders" to bands almost famous for them. We settled on "Fine Young Cannibals" as our team name, but by the time I got to the Swim Center with the paperwork, I forgot. So that is how we became "Los Federales."

It is also indoor soccer season, but our team names merely reflect the color of our T-shirts. I'm on Team Fuschia.

Small Old Dogs

I'm taking a liking to small old dogs. I think they're dramatically underrated.
My friend Erika has a twelve-year-old dog named Skipper (Chihuahua mix) whose is bow-legged and suffers from arthritis. Yet this dog has an endearing, Yoda-like spirit that creates calmness in any room. I say....HOORAY for those little old dogs with ancient souls.

Devil's Tower, a Preview

I climbed Devil's Tower on Wednesday and now I can't shut up about it. I was covering the Front Desk at work yesterday and I had to really restrain myself when customers would come in so I wouldn't greet them with, "Guess what? I just climbed Devil's Tower!" Mostly they just wanted to use the restroom.

I've Been Thinking About Stars

and it buoys my spirit. Clear nights are spectacular, but I love the glow behind the clouds, too.

We can be INVINCIBLE, if we simply recognise. . .

. . . that an important part of the star wranglin' way is admitting and accepting and ACTING on the fact that we deserve quality in our lives. We deserve luxury. We deserve a top-shelf lifestyle.

And therefore, we need to acknowledge the fact that matching bras and knickers (underwear) are not an extravagance, but a necessity. I'm not saying EVERY bra and knickers that you own have to match, but you should have at least ONE set . . . .

And it's not as expensive as you think! Just visit Figleaves.com and look for the sales - you'll be amazed at how affordable such 'opulence' can be.

Because, dagnabit, as a Star Wrangler, you have an image to uphold. You have a duty. It's not all tequila and sunbutter parties, you know. And above all else, you're worth it! So today I want you to go out into the world and say, "I am a lady Star Wrangler! And I have a right to wear a brassiere and underpants that are of the same make and the same colour and the same brand!"

The revolution starts here, comrades!!
Image from this FABULOUS blog: http://sovietposter.blogspot.com/

Here's a tip - when buying a set, make sure to get at least 2 pairs of knickers. Then you can wear your set more often!

Fine Tremors

Can fine hand tremors affect the quality of one's star wranglin' motor skills?
I found an entry on WebMD that alluded to this type of situation. Sometimes the pinky of my left hand loses its strength, and wilts like a baby daisy. My star wranglin' days may be numbered.....

Conversation At Claire's Soccer Game

Dierdre: This has been a great game. They'e all running hard and they're so evenly matched.

Greg: Kind of like life.

Denise: Except the "evenly matched" part.

Dierdre: Yeah. Sometimes I have such an advantage.

There are these long days, there is this dumb luck, there is a brand new way..opening up.

14 miles, 53 minutes.(and that is on my tequila/b-vitamins/16 malboro 72s everyday regime)

Not a Star in the Sky, But a Bird on a Post

One morning just as I was headed out to get some coffee, my friend Dierdre called. She said there was a hawk or an eagle right outside her house and she wondered if I knew what it was. I kind of figured I wouldn't know, but I still wanted to look at it. I'm glad Dierdre's the kind of person who when she sees something really cool she wants to share it with someone. I'm also glad that two of her daughters weren't home and the other one was asleep and her neighbors had recently moved so she thought to call me. And she gave me coffee.

Now stars,

I think you best listen to me.

Something to know..

stars ain't gonna wrangle themselves...well actually they probably do, but it is not going to hurt to prod them a little.

What's a Meme anyway?

Meme! Which I stole from Sassmaster. These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users. Bold (or blue)what you have read, italicise what you started but couldn't finish, make it red if you couldn't stand it, and star those you want to read. Make it green if you've never heard of it.

The ones with no special mark I am mostly indifferent to, or I don't want to read them beacause I know how they end.

I would like to take a moment to thank my high school world-lit teacher, Mrs. Leinweber. Going through this list made me think of her and how much I appreciate her love of literature.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (It IS recommended by 50 Books.)
Anna Karenina
Crime and Punishment
Catch-22
I read this out of self-defense because my coworkers were always quoting it. I don't really remember it, though.
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Wuthering Heights (I don't know. The hero is such a pouty baby I'm not sure I want to try it)
The Silmarillion (Probably won't read. I am watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy again, however.)
Life of Pi (I listened to this on a roadtrip to Tucson. I liked it a lot, but I mixed in quite a bit of music in between the 6 or more cd's of the book.

Ulysses
Madame Bovary
The Odyssey
Loved it.

"secret club" unveils "secret corporate logo"

"We think this will REALLY raise our secret club's profile," says VP Renee "Smoky Cupcakes" Abeln. "I mean, what more could anybody want for their secret club's image?"

"See, the stars respresent our goals, aspirations . . . dreams, if you will. The hobby horse represents how we will get to those dreams, the simple, yet charming vehicle that gets us within reach. The lasso, our methods. The tools we have at our command."

"The babe? Obviously, that respresents us." Abeln answered, noticibly irritated. "Because we're hot." She leaned forward meaningfully. "And I mean, HOT. OOOOweeee!! Spicy tamale!!!"

Would you like to join our "secret" club.

The first thing you need to do is add star wranglin' to the interests on your profile.
